In September 1984 Scoil Ioasgáin officially opened in the village of Upperchurch. Three local schools amalgamated together to form Upperchurch Central NS. The schools involved were Roskeen, Milestone and Upperchurch. Minister for Education, Richard Burke – an Upperchurch native – was heavily involved in this initative. The “new school” was a state of the art building with central heating, large classrooms and toilets in all classrooms. The school was lucky enough to have a large green area around the school which was utilised excellently with tarmac yards, basketball court and two playing pitches. There was a large student population at this time with over 200 pupils and a staff of seven teachers.
